Pau is located between the Atlantic coast and the Pyrenees mountains.  It is in the Aquitaine region and has around 135,000 inhabitants.  It is about 120 km from the Atlantic coast (Biarritz and the Basque Coast and also the Landes beaches) and a short drive from the Spanish border.  Bordeaux and Toulouse are both about 200 km away.
